Accreditation
Illinois State University operates under authority granted by the Illinois General Assembly. Programs of study offered by the University have been specifically authorized by the State of Illinois through its Illinois Board of Higher Education. In addition to being state-authorized, Illinois State University and many of its programs of study are accredited. Accreditation assures quality by verifying that an institution or program meets threshold quality standards and is engaged in continuous improvement.

Illinois State University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC), one of six regional accrediting agencies recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Higher Learning Commission accreditation of colleges and universities involves multiple reviews occurring in a 10-year cycle that begins and ends with a comprehensive review with site visit. The accreditation review schedule for Illinois State in the current 10-year cycle follows.
