Dance
Overview
The minor in Dance at Illinois State University offers a secondary area of study for those students whose career goals are enhanced through increased knowledge of dance skills, theory and history. This 24 credit hour program prepares students with knowledge and skills to merge dance with his/her intended career path.
Point of Pride
The Minor in Dance offers a comprehensive curriculum of dance technique and theory courses, while complementing the student’s major in another discipline.
Why study Dance?
The field of dance allows students to discover and hone their mind/body connection while learning theory and practice of the art form. Involving creative thinking and problem solving, a minor in Dance complements many major areas of study, especially those majors which need people to “think outside the box.”
How to Apply
Application Information
The Minor in Dance is open to current Illinois State students and requires an application and audition for acceptance into the program during the fall semester only. The application is available using My.Illinois State.
Application Period
Dance minor admission consideration is made each fall.
Audition Requirements
- Complete an audition class with ballet, modern, and jazz technique components
- Students auditioning will need professional dance attire, footless leggings/tights and ballet shoes.
The number of students admitted into the Dance minor each year is limited and based competitiveness of the applicant pool.
* Please note the Dance minor audition is a separate audition from the auditions for the Dance major sequences. The audition process will involve an audition class incorporating class components from ballet, modern and jazz techniques. The audition process will conclude with each applicant having an individual interview with the Dance faculty. There is no solo performance requirement for the Minor in Dance.
