Family and Consumer Sciences

Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) focuses on enhancing the lives of individuals, their families, communities, and organizations. Students will acquire the knowledge and skills required to help people make informed decisions to safeguard their health and optimize their quality of life. The Family and Consumer Sciences minor provides the opportunity to concentrate your classes in a specific FCS area of interest:

  • Fashion Design and Merchandising (FDM)
  • Food, Nutrition and Dietetics (FND)
  • Human Development and Family Science (HDFS)
  • Interior Design (ID)

The Family and Consumer Sciences minor focuses on the well-being of individuals, families, and communities. Whether focused on sustainable clothing, healthy diets, rewarding relationships, or pleasing environments, students prepare to meet the challenges of today's global environment.

Application Information

Minors can only be declared by current Illinois State students. Current students can use the Apply to Your Program tool on My.IllinoisState.edu.

Application Period

Applications are accepted during the following periods:

  • August 1 September 21 (for spring semester)
  • January 1 February 21 (for fall semester)
