Business Education
Overview
The Business Education major at Illinois State University combines the solid foundation of a business degree with preparation needed to become a business and compter education teacher. The program is the only K-12 Business Education program in the state, and the only dedicated business education program at a public institution. There is a shortage of business teachers in the state.
The Business Education graduate is prepared to teach all business and information technology courses, including business, accounting, business law, information processing/keyboarding, computer applications, consumer economics, marketing, entrepreneurship, business communications, web design, digital media, and many more.
Point of Pride
The college is one of 24 business schools nationally to have full membership status in the Consortium for Undergraduate International Business Education (CUIBE).
Why study Business Education?
The primary purpose of Business Education is to prepare professional teachers to teach business and computer/information technology courses in K-12 schools. Although most graduates do become teachers, some graduates may be employed as school administrators or business professionals in multiple industries. Recent graduates are employed as educators or in the hotel/restaurant field, finance, insurance, manufacturing, public administration, retail trade, and in the professional, scientific, and technical services industries.
