Physics - Computational Physics
Overview
Computational physicists use powerful computers to solve complex programs that once seemed impossible.
Professionals are valuable in both research and industry. They have a broad knowledge of physics, computer science, math, and theory. They use their expertise to explore and model physical phenomena, like quarks, black holes, and weather.
Our program gives you a solid background in physics and computation. You’ll learn programming languages and computing techniques to solve challenges in physics. Many students in this program choose to complete a double degree in Computational Physics and Physics.
Point of Pride
Computational Physics is one of only a few programs in the U.S. designed to educate students in computer simulation of physical systems.
Why study Physics - Computational Physics?
Recognized by the Department of Energy, the Computational Physics program at Illinois State is among only a handful in the world.
Many undergraduate programs simply introduce you to computational physics. Our program engages you in a well-balanced curriculum. Your education includes theoretical, experimental, and computational physics.
Our Physics department houses four, high-performance computational servers. This state-of-the-art technology lets you perform calculations to solve real, complex problems.
