Varsity Redbird Esports

Officially launching in fall 2020, Redbird Esports varsity teams will compete in multiple games at the highest level in collegiate esports. Illinois State will be the first public institution in Illinois with a varsity esports team.
Scholarships Available
Recruitment is underway for the fall 2020 Redbird Esports varsity team. Scholarships are available for student players and student support staff. Tryouts will begin in April 2020. Registration for Varsity Esports Tryouts is now open.

Redbird Gaming
Many game specific clubs are already established at Illinois State with several teams already competing, and more coming soon. Clubs also offer social opportunities for students to connect and engage with other students interested in gaming.

Gaming Lab and DIGGS
Top teams need a top place to train and compete. The DIGGS (Digital Innovation, Graphics, and Gaming Studio) is currently utilized by many of our club teams. New gaming facilities, including a state-of-the-art Esports Arena, are being constructed as the future home of Redbird Esports.
Game Design Program
The Creative Technologies program in the Wonsook Kim College of Fine Arts is finalizing the curriculum for a Game Design major and minor. This program will work in close partnership with Redbird Esports as Illinois State prepares the next generation of game developers.
