Overview

Information Systems (IS) is at the heart of any organization. Companies rely on information to make good decisions, create new products and services, and understand their target audience. IS professionals integrate hardware and software to help organizations manage their information. The Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET accredits the Information Systems program at Illinois State.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) involves a combination of computer technology and large datasets to enable problem solving. Organizations are increasingly making use of AI, and students graduating into the IT profession need to become skilled users of this technology.

In this major, you learn what AI is, how to evaluate the data on which it is based, ethical concerns, and how to determine the usefulness of its applications. We cover topics such as:

  • What artificial intelligence is and what it is not
  • How to evaluate and understand the datasets used as the source of training for its "intelligence"
