Environmental Systems Science and Sustainability
The Environmental Systems Science and Sustainability (ESSS) major provides an interdisciplinary and socially transformative academic program that prepares the next generation of environmental scientists and citizens.
You will study today’s complex environmental challenges and explore potential sustainable solutions through engaging hands-on technology and laboratory-based learning experiences. Many of our students participate in field expeditions and research, oftentimes internationally.
You will supplement your classroom learning with a professional internship. This experience will help prepare you for a career in a growing and vibrant job sector. Employment prospects for environmental scientists and specialists are projected to grow faster than the average over the next decade.

Illinois State's preferred filing period for freshman students for the fall semester is September 1-November 15. Applying early is encouraged, as the University must limit enrollment due to space at the University and in specific majors/programs. Visit the Office of Admissions to apply today!
