Food and Beverage Management
Overview
The Food and Beverage Management program at lllinois State covers the broad field of nutrition with a special focus on the food and beverage industry, rather than science. The program combines business and management principles with food service and hospitality skills.
All Food and Beverage Management students will need to complete an undergraduate professional practice experience as a program requirement.
Point of Pride
This program offers interdisciplinary opportunities in agriculture, business, marketing, and health science. Many classes take place in a recently renovated state-of-the-art foods lab.
Why study Food and Beverage Management?
Trained and qualified managers are needed wherever food is served. Consumers spend about 50 percent of their food dollars eating at restaurants, cafeterias, work, or school. Food systems managers organize these operations, making sure food is attractive, nutritious, and safely prepared. This sequence opens doors to a variety of careers in the food service and management industries including:
- Management in restaurants and cafeterias (medical, corporate or school)
- Catering
- Food safety inspection
- Food sales, marketing and business management
- Companies that produce food, food ingredients or processing equipment
