Make your mark on campus

Help shape the future of our campus by taking the ISU Campus Inclusion Survey and letting your voice be heard. Check your campus email for an invitation to the survey from info@viewfindersurveys.com.

The survey

The week of September 26, 2022, all ISU students, faculty, and staff will receive an invitation to take the 2022 ISU Campus Inclusion Survey. Your responses to the survey will help us to make changes to provide a campus environment where everyone feels welcome, valued, and respected.

Illinois State chose the company “Viewfinder” to send out the survey to all students and employees. Viewfinder, which also publishes the magazine Insights into Diversity, is an independent company outside of ISU, and they will ensure that your responses remain anonymous with no names attached to your survey answers.

Survey participation dates:

The week of September 26 through October 21, 2022
Check your ilstu.edu email to complete the ISU Campus Inclusion Survey!

FAQs

  • How do I take the survey?
  • What kinds of questions will be asked?

  • Will the University know what my answers are?
  • Will my name be attached to the results?
  • Why is this coming from Viewfinder?
  • Haven’t we done these surveys before? What is different now?
  • I have searched my email for Viewfinder, and I cannot find the survey email. Who should I contact?
An email from info@viewfindersurveys.com will be sent to the campus email account (ilstu.edu) for all current students, faculty, and staff. The subject line will be Take the ISU Campus Inclusion Survey. Click on the link provided in the email to take the survey.

Questions will include topics such as:

  • The degree to which you feel welcomed on campus
  • Your satisfaction with resources and programs offered on campus
  • The extent to which you feel respected by others
  • Your rating of our campus’ support for people from diverse backgrounds and identities
  • Your rating of faculty and staff’s support for people with ability differences
  • The extent to which you feel a sense of belonging on our campus
  • Your comfort in openly expressing your identity and background among your peers
  • Whether you have experienced bias and/or discrimination

The survey results will be sent from Viewfinder to ISU as a report. The University will use the report to help refine current policies and set the direction for University leadership.

Past surveys have laid the foundation for important changes and improvements to our campus that support our campus’ goals of equity, diversity, and inclusion.

The survey will take about 15 to 20 minutes to complete.

No. All answers are anonymous. The University will have the answers, but not who gave them.

Viewfinder will ask your name when you log into the survey, but this will not be shared with the University. The only time the University will ask for your name is if you choose to take part in a drawing for an incentive. These drawings are not tied to the survey data. The University will not know what each person answered on the survey.

Viewfinder conducts surveys at institutions of higher learning across the country to gauge the “campus climate” of equity and inclusion. Viewfinder will provide an independent and anonymous survey, meaning Illinois State will not have the names of those who provide answers.

Every few years, the University assesses the extent to which our campus has improved in the areas of equity, diversity, and inclusion. In 2022, ISU completed a 5-year review of the accomplishments and work yet to be done from our previous campus inclusion (aka campus climate) survey. Continual feedback is needed to generate new and exciting programs and assists the University in making infrastructure changes.

Those who believe they should have received a survey link from Viewfinder via campus email, but have not, contact dboyd@viewfindersurveys.com.

*Official legal language: Only Illinois State University students are eligible for the drawings. To claim the prize, the winner must contact the Office of the President at (309) 438-5677 and complete all required documentation. If the selected winner does not claim the prize within seven [7] days, the entrant will automatically be disqualified, and their prize will be forfeited. All federal, state, and local income taxes are the sole responsibility of the individual winner.
