Being Successful in the Field
The best way to prepare for a creative career is simple: make, make, make. The more projects you create, the more you'll develop your skills, discover your interests, and grow as an artist.
Take advantage of opportunities to connect with other creators. Collaborate with classmates, join creative clubs, attend conferences, and participate in game jams, film festivals, and design competitions. These experiences help you build relationships, gain feedback, and understand how creative industries work.
Pay attention to the professional field as you grow. Look at job postings and internships to see what skills employers are seeking, and use that information to guide the classes you take and the projects you pursue.
Most importantly, invest real time and care into your portfolio. Your portfolio is your most powerful tool when applying for internships and jobs. Focus on creating strong, finished projects that show your creativity, technical abilities, and personal voice.
