Task Force Recommendation: Create and invest in affirming spaces for diverse students

Task Force Project: Assess the physical accessibility of the campus, and immediate community, to ensure we meet the safety needs of our students with disabilities.  In addition, review curriculum and extra-curricular opportunities to ensure that classroom and program materials are inclusive and accessible to students with varying levels of abilities.

Implementation Team Actions

• Illinois State currently has 42 all-gender restrooms in 21 buildings across campus form teh work of the All-Gender Committee. 

• The Office of Equal Opportunity and Access began a campus-wide review and strategic plan for updating campus signage in all buildings.
• Other initiatives include:
  • Updat ing braille signage in several building s on-campus
  • Working with Facilities to improve sidewalks, paths, and doorways for accessibility
  • Continuing the partnership with the Town of Normal to improve the overall accessibility of the larger community
