Kinesiology & Recreation - Sport Management
Also Available Online
Overview
The Kinesiology and Recreation – Sport Management master’s program helps students make the jump from sports fan to sport manager. It includes innovative curriculum, small class sizes, and numerous opportunities to gain practical, real-world experience.
We offer two ways to complete the M.S. in Kinesiology and Recreation - Sport Management: Traditional (on-campus) or Online.
Traditional Sequence
The traditional sequence is offered on-campus in Normal, IL and courses are offered at a variety of times during the day and evening. Our on-campus students work hard in the field and in the classroom. Through field trips, speakers, and class activities, students can connect with high-level sport executives and get practical experience with assistantships, internships, and volunteer opportunities. During the last year of the program, students will complete a culminating experience on campus or in the region.
See a sample two-year plan of study for the traditional master’s sequence.
Online Sequence
The online sequence offers the same high-quality program taught by our full-time faculty, but courses are offered fully online and asynchronously, making it easy for students to complete the program in a time frame and geographic location that works best for them. Students in the online program will complete a practicum, which provides real-world, hands-on experience in the sport industry. Online students will also receive one-on-one faculty mentorship throughout their studies. The online sequence can be completed in as little as three semesters, but students can also work through the program at their own pace if they prefer a part-time schedule.
Due to the online nature of this sequence, graduate assistantships are not available. Consider our traditional program if you wish to secure a graduate assistantship.

Point of Pride
Sport Management classes are taught by full-time faculty with years of hands-on sport industry experience. Students in the sport management sequence gain access to an accomplished group of program alumni who are actively employed by professional sports teams, collegiate athletics departments, sport agencies, and more. As a result, students will learn how to think critically about the issues facing the sport industry through real-world application and experience.
